Abstract

We have proposed and demonstrated a fiber‐optical scheme of wavelength conversion based on double‐pass supercontinuum generation. An actively mode‐locked fiber laser is first constructed. Then the generation of enhanced supercontinuum with 120‐nm bandwidth is experimentally achieved using double‐pass configuration, which is 30% broader than that of 90 nm using single‐pass configuration. We ultimately attain the converted pulse train with the same repetition rate as that of the actively mode‐locked pulse after filtering of FBG. It is a potential technique for one‐to‐multiple wavelength conversion with series‐wound FBGs. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Single-to-dual channel wavelength conversion at 40 Gbit/s is experimentally observed based on sum-frequency generation and difference-frequency generation in periodically poled LiNbO 3 waveguides. Wavelength relationships between dual-channel idler waves and three incident waves are investigated in
