✦ Synopsis

Induced premature ovulation of the normally growing 'follicle of the hen's ovary has been described previously by Fraps, Olsen and Neher ( '42). I n the present study, fertility and hatchability of the prematurely ovulated ovum have been determined. The results indicate that eggs forced to ovulate 6, 14, or 22 hours prematurely can be hatched, and advanced embryonic development is obtainable in eggs forced to ovulate 30 hours prematurely.

We have used gel-filtration chromatography on columns of "Ultragel" in 1.0 M sodium chloride to fractionate the soluble proteins of the yolkof Australorp hen's eggs. Five fractions were isolated quantitatively: three major fractions each about a third of the total soluble protein by weight and each
