The ''Fermi shuttle'' acceleration of electrons in ion-atom collisions, i.e. multiple collision sequences of electrons bouncing off the projectile and target nuclei, can lead to the emission of very energetic electrons (i.e. with velocities higher than the binary encounter electrons). We performed m

✦ Synopsis
We present three-body classical trajectory Monte-Carlo calculations for ionization in slow (1-50 keV/u) N + on Ar collisions. According to the calculations, at smaller projectile energies ionization occurs mostly due to multiple scattering processes. At 1 keV/u impact energy, we found rather long (6-14-fold) scattering sequences.
