We report on a high-energy ceramic Nd^3+^:Y~3~Al~5~O~12~ laser. Under the pyrotechnic explosion pumping, quasi-CW output power of about 1.1 KW (โ5.5 J) at 1.06415 ฮผm wavelength (^4^F~3/2~ โ ^4^I~11/2~ lasing channel) was achieved. CW laser output has been demonstrated for polycrystalline transparent 10 at.% Yb 3+ -doped Y 2 O 3 ceramics. Endpumped with 970 nm laser diode, a maximum output power of 5.5 W has been obtained with absorbed pump power of 31.1 W. The slope efficiency is 25% while the threshold pump power is 5.6 W. S
