The optical Kerr effect of liquid nitrobenzene and chlorobenzene is probed with 65 fs optical pulses at 633 nm. We observe an instantaneous signal contribution which is attributed to the incoherent (dephased) electronic component of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility x"'. Additionally, three n
