C a p r e l l i d amphipods feed by browsing, filter-feeding, predation, ~c a v e n g i n g , and scraping. Food a c q u i s i t i o n is related to the p r e s e n c e or absence of plumose setae on the second antenna; those species with such setae obtain a s i g n i f i c a n t amount of their diet from filtering and scraping p e r i p h y t o n w h i l e those species without such setae u s u a l l y rely on predation. Two primary predators and 8 primary filterfeeders and scrapers were investigated. Substrates inhabited by the p r e d a t o r s did not overlap, but some f i l t e r -f e e d e r s were found together. Feeding overlap has been d e c r e a s e d among f i l t e r -f e e d e r s that occur together, as they either feed on different sized particles or they filter at d i f f e r e n t heights from the substrate. Species f i l t e r i n g the same sized particles at the same heights that were found together u t i l i z e d a l t e r n a t e feeding mechanisms, e.g. b r o w s i n g on algal filaments.
