โฆ Synopsis
High precision measurements
of the upper critical magnetic field of polycrystalline UBeis are deduced from the dc magnetization.
Two sharp features consistent with the presence of phase transitions are observed. Anomalous behavior of the normal-state magnetization leads us to suggest that the warmer feature is associated with a fieldinduced magnetic state. The absence of additional anomalous behavior of the magnetization and the presence of a qualitatively similar feature in the critical field of a 3% thoriated UBeis sample suggest that the colder transition mav be to a second superconducting state.
