✦ Synopsis
The present study is examing the viability of photovoltic power to run domestic reverse osmosis (RO) units in residential houses to desalinate brackish water supplied by the water authority. It was found that using RO/Solar system only in houses in the state of Bahrain would produce 110,000 m 3 of drinking water ( 40 million gallon) per day. This amount of desalinated water will require 150,000 m 3 of natural gas if it is processed in a conventional RO plant. From the experimental results, it was found that three solar panel ~r e adequate to provide the necessary power and water requirement for an average house.
