✦ Synopsis
The Reconstruction of Trauma is an edited version of a 2-day workshop on the reconstruction of trauma sponsored by the American Psychoanalytic Association. It presents a diversity of views on an important topic in a balanced and comprehensive manner. This volume is divided into three sections: The first, composed of three chapters, provides a theoretical overview of the concept of reconstruction discussing differing views of "trauma."
The eight chapters comprising the second section focus on the reconstruction of specific traumata. They further explicate psychoanalytic theory and therapeutic technique. Of particular interest are the chapters on the Holocaust by Jucovy and Ornstein, as they clearly show the value of differing perspectives on the same phenomenon. Formal discussion and synthesis of the preceeding contributions make up the third and final section.
This volume is of great theoretical and practical value. It would be a valuable resource and useful graduate-level text.
