โฆ Synopsis
boundary is introduced. This technique consists of a reduction, by repetitive optimization, of the number of elements with low amplitude excitations and permits the determination of the optimal configuration and excitations of the radiating elements to achieve the design specifications. In the examples presented we considered broad contour beams. However, the technique is applicable to larger arrays for producing narrower contour beams for applications in high orbit satellites.
This technique achieves significant reduction in the number of elements excited, cost, and the dynamic ranges of the excitations for the square and elliptical footprint patterns. This method is applicable to planar arrays of a wide variety of grid structures when applied to the stretching method, and always provides pure real excitations for the stretching method, and also for the transformation-based technique if the contour is symmetric.
