Several months ago F. B. J. Kuiper expressed the wish to relinquish his editorship in favour of M. Witzel. Since the foundation of the INDO-IRANIAN JOURNAL in 1956 he has devoted much of his time and energy to it. I have no doubt that the readers will join me in expressing our thanks to him for all he has done for the Journal during a quarter of a century. M. Witzel and I hope that we will be able to carry on in his spirit -we will do so in the confidence that we will always be able to draw on his knowledge and experience.
