The chromatographic properties of the cis and trans methyl octadecenoates and of some C12 and Cls acetylenic esters on thin layers of silica impregnated with silver nitrate and on some GLC systems are reported. The possibility of identification and separation of these isomers is discussed.

✦ Synopsis
The chromatographic (GLC and silver ion TLC) properties of thirteen octadecadiynoic esters and the cis,cis-and trans,trans-dienoates derived from them are investigated. The possibility of predicting GEC behaviour (ECL) is discussed.
We have already reported 1) the synthesis of several diunsaturated C~a acids of general formula 1. In this paper, describing the GLC and silver ion TLC behaviour of their esters, frequent reference will be made to n which CH 3.(CHz)~.X.(CH2),.X.(CH2),.COOH X isC~C, CH&CH, or CH-t-CH is the number of methylene groups separating the two unsaturated centres. In the esters being examined n varies between 0 and 6. Similar properties of a series of thirteen isomeric 1,4-cis,cis-C18-dienoates (n = 1) prepared by Christie and Holman 2) have already been reported 3, 4).
