✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Coronary stents have to sustain up to 700 million cycles induced by the cyclic diameter change of coronary arteries. Therefore fatigue tests are required to allow an accreditation or commercial utilization. In the present study coronary stents were investigated after cyclic fatigue in a stent tester. Several stents of equal design and equal test adjustments but with different cyclic expansion due to their position in the stent tester were compared. Microstructure characterization by means of scanning electron microscopy as well as single grain orientation determination shows the differences in microstructure and microtexture after different magnitudes of cyclic expansion. The present study will give a more comprehensive understanding of the influence of the test conditions on the structure property relationship under monotonic and cyclic load as a basis for ongoing development in stent optimization.
