Abstract

Cerebral oedema is a well recognized but uncommon complication of diabetic ketoacidosis, occurring predominantly in children. We report a fatal case of cerebral oedema associated with progressive hyponatraemia in a middle‐aged woman during treatment of newly presenting diabetic ketoacidosis. Possible aetiological factors in the pathogenesis of cerebral oedema during treatment of DKA are discussed.
