β¦ Synopsis
Umbilical arterial and venous catheters are used widely in the care of sick newborn infants. A number of complications of such catheters have been reported including infection, hemorrhage, thrombosis and portal hypertension. The purpose of this paper is to report a case of fatal air embolism and alert other clinicians to the cause of this disastrous event.
