β¦ Synopsis
Several (Q)-branch series of both the torsion-rotation transitions and the (b)-type rotational transitions of methanol have been measured with an accuracy of better than (100 \mathrm{kHz}), using a tunable coherent far-infrared radiation source. This precise measurement of the far-infrared transitions has enabled us to analyze them together with the previously reported microwave data by the leastsquares fit, in which the same weight is given to the data of both frequency regions. On the basis of the eighth-order reduced torsion-rotation Hamiltonian, more than 1000 transitions involving (J \leqslant 10, K \leqslant 5), and (v_{1}) (torsional quantum number) (\leqslant 2) were fitted to one standard deviation of less than (1 \mathrm{MHz}). c. 1995 Academic Press.
