✦ Synopsis

Reflectance spectra of polycrystalline n-type ceramic superconductors Nd(1.8S)R(0.15)CuO(4-y) (R = Ce and Th) were measured over the range from 2 K to 300 K from 20 cm-~to 10,000 cm-~. The overall reflectivity is interpretted, with the assistance of Kramers-Kronig analysis, as due primarily to free-carrier excitations, while sharp features are attributed to lattice vibrations and a superconducting energy gap for excitations along the c-axis.
