Praveen Chaudhari has announced his intention to step down as director of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in an open letter to staff at the facility. He cites personal reasons for the decision after three years in the role. "The laboratory is in very good shape and I feel it is time for me to make a change: to spend more time at home and to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities to do science at BNL." Chaudhari will now work part time as a scientist at BNL. The move comes after increased funding was announced for BNL in US President Bush's budget following a period in which the laboratory suffered from "a shortfall in funding", according to Chaudhari.
