Transmission M össbauer spectroscopy has been used to study the temperature effect on modified alumina with Fe 2 O 3 , used for the separation of hydrocarbons like alkanes and alkenes. The phases were determined qualitatively and quantitatively formed at each temperature ranging from 400 to 1200 1C.
The layered M n+1 AC n ternary carbides -MAX phases -Ta 2 AlC, Ti 2 AlC, Cr 2 AlC and Ti 3 SiC 2 were tested under dry sliding conditions against alumina at 550 • C and 3 N load (for a stress of ≈0.08 MPa) using a pin-on-disk tribometer. Ta 2 AlC and Ti 2 AlC exhibited low specific wear rates, SWRs,
