A practical faecal occult blood (FOB) test as a screening tool for colonic pathology was first described by Greegor' in 1967. Many subsequent studies have examined the accuracy and value of FOB testing as a screening method for colonic carcinoma in an asymptomatic Since the role of FOB testing in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms has not yet been clearly defined, the present study was undertaken to examine this question.
