Report on patent law revision**The evidence in support of the Preambles and Resolutions and suggested additions to the copyright, patent and trade-mark laws contained in the first part of our report was not published in the May Journal owing to want of space. I am now sending you the remaining part of the report, by request, as it is considered quite necessary for the members of the Association to have in their hands before the next annual meeting, the entire document for consideration and study. It is believed that this will decidedly facilitate matters and save much time at the annual meeting which otherwise might be used up in unnecessary discussion of the subject.Your Committee wishes to again emphasize that fact that we have no desire to impose our personal views on the Association. The copyright and patent laws were designed to promote progress in science and the useful arts and the trade-mark laws to protect the public from fraud and imposition. It is generally conceded that the laws as now interpreted and applied fall short in accomplishing their purpose. It is therefore incumbent upon the A. Ph. The cultivation of hydrastis**This article is written in the first person, and, by request of the editor, gives facts concerning Hydrastis culture as observed in my own experimentations, corroborated by others known to me personally. No attempt has therefore been made to embody the experiences of persons who have heretofore printed articles on the subject, nor have my own previous publications, or my own photographs and detail notes'been used at all, excepting briefly. The cuts, excepting those showing the Hydrastis farm of Dr. Homsher, are from Drugs and Medicines of North America, 1884, or from others of my previous prints on the subject. The object being to present the problem so as to save to others experimental wanderings, I must yet urge the reader who proposes to enter the field of Hydrastis culture, to study carefully the Bulletins issued OR this subject by the Agricultural Department of the United States Government, especially the admirable pamphlet of Miss Alice Henkel and G. Fred Klugh, of the Bweau of Plant Industry.-L.

The Relations of the Proprietor to the Retail Druggist and Price Maintenance**Abstracted from the β€œReport of the Committee on Relations with the Retail Drug Trade.” presented at the last annual meeting of the Proprietary Association of America. The paper IS reprinted as a contribution to the subjects of price maintenance on proprietary medcines and the cooperative manufacturing and buying movement. The report is not only well written and readable, but presents a fair-minded statement of the retailer’s reasons for being dissatisfied with his present profits on proprietary goods, and shows that the pro rietors are awakening to the necessity of cooperating with him in densing or finding an elective legal method for giving the relief asked for.
