โฆ Synopsis
The intercomparison on the upper critical field measurement in the Nb-Ti wire (NIST SRM 1457) has been performed through the VAMAS activity. The homogeneity in the He2 of the wire was good enough, and the coefficient of scatter in the He2 intercomparison was about 0.60 %. Effects of several factors on the He2 of the Nb-Ti wire are reported in the present paper. The coiled specimen shows slightly lower He: than the straight sample. The He= of the wire decreases by annealing, and recovers by wire drawing, The Hca of the wire shows an appreciable anisotropy with respect to the direction of applied field. The anisotropy in Hca is eliminated by annealing, and reintroduced by the subsequent wire drawing.

In the frame work of the VAMAS intercomparison activities the second critical field Bc2 of the standard NIST NbTi/Cu superconductor was investigated in several laboratories in the world. In this paper the specific results obtained in the UT laboratory are reported. On a single piece of wire of 1.5 m
Analytic expressions for hysteretic loss have been developed for half-cycle and full-cycle field sweeps for rod geometries for a critical state model with critical current inversely proportional to field. Bulk effects with surface-like character are discussed along with surface shielding fields and
