This is the first of a series of papers on factor space theory and its applications to fuzzy information processing. This paper focuses on the basics of factor spaces such as the meaning, operations of factors, etc. A new axiomatic definition of factor space and the notion of the description frame a

✦ Synopsis
Fuzzy decision making based on the concept of feedback extension, which is a new concept and can be regarded as a basic tool for fuzzy decision making, is formulated. After defining the concept of feedback extension, envelopes of feedback extension and the degrees of coincidence of the concepts are introduced. Then the representation if the intention of a concept is described. Finally, the methods of decision-making based on feedback extension--the DFE method--are discussed in detail. A numerical example is given to illustrate the approach.
