The four-membered heterocycles 3 with trans-oriented CF3 groups are the major products of the 12 + 21-cycloaddition, whereas only small amounts of the cis-compounds 4 and head-to-head isomers 5 are formed; the product patterns for phosphorus and arsenic compounds under the same reaction conditions are different.
