β¦ Synopsis
The fabrication of carbon solids which have a narrow distribution of pore size and fairly high strength has been made by carbonizing briquettes of grafted carbon black. These briquettes have a large pore volume of about 0.7 ml/g. The carbon black particles are bonded to each other by a carbonized polymer. Their packing is looser than in a cubic arrangement.
Their maximum compressive strength is about 2-3 kg/mm2, which is strong enough for industrial application.
