✦ Synopsis

A companion piece to 'Eve's Diary", "Extracts from Adam's Diary", was first published in a souvenir book for the 1893 Buffalo Pan-American Exposition. This version placed the Garden of Eden at Niagara Falls. In 1904 the book was published with the illustrations of Fredrick Strothmann. This book is based on this version which retains the Niagara Falls references.

Written at the end of Twain's career, Extracts from Adam's Diary was first published in 1897 and Extracts from Eve's Diary in 1905. Twain's Adam was based on himself while Eve was modelled after his wife Livy. It is fitting that these two essays be joined together in one package.
