A simple method has been developed to determine micromolar concentrations of Nd(III), Th(IV) and UWI) in brine. The method involves the extractive separation of these cations from brine matrix species by using ChIorophosphonaxo III as extractant with 1-butanol as solvent, and the spectrophotometric determination of the concentration of extracted species in the butanol phase. The lowest concentrations that could be determined are estimated to be 5 x IO-' M for Nd(II1) and 2 X lo-' M for Th(IV) and U(VI).
