✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Papilla‐like biosilica was extracted from rice hulls by using a wet oxidation method and characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The experimental results show that the papilla‐like biosilica was a kind of amorphous mesoporous materials composed of particles with a mean radius of about 3.6 nm. Nitrogen adsorption‐desorption measurements indicate that the BET surface area of the biosilica is 355.9 m^2^/g with a BJH adsorption average pore size of 5.8 nm.

Precipitation of magnesium silicate from sodium silicate and MgCl 2 and MgSO 4 solutions was investigated at four different reactant feed rates and two temperatures (25 °C and 50 °C). Sodium silicate solutions were produced from rice hull ash silica. The final product was characterized by scanning e
