Abstract
All‐optical 2R regeneration of 10 Gb/s signals based on self‐phase modulation (SPM) in an 80‐m dispersion‐flattened microstructure fiber was demonstrated experimentally. The SPM‐induced broadened spectrum was generated in bandwidth of 70 nm with the flatness of −3 dB in the 1550 nm band. The output extinction ratio of the optimal regenerated signals was improved from 5.6 to about 12 dB. The regenerator also could greatly reduce the amplitude jitter. Furthermore, the single‐to‐multiple‐channel wavelength conversion characteristic of the regenerator was also discussed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
