โฆ Synopsis
Abstraet--Methacryloyldipeptides having sequences of L-amino acyl-L-alanine ethyl esters (AA-Ala--OEt) as pendant groups which were synthesized by the cyclohexylcarbodiimide-mediated condensation method, were polymerized in the presence of catalysts, to evaluate their capabilities as new external stimulusresponsive hydrogels. The hydrogels exhibited a reversible response for temperature change, e.g. low-temperature swelling and high-temperature deswelling in a water-methanol system, especially for methanol contents exceeding 50vo1%. The resulting temperature-response increased in the order Gly-Ala-OEt (Gly:glycine) > Ala-Ala--OEt > Val-Ala-OEt (Val: L-valine) > ILe-Ala-OEt (ILe: L-isoleucine) as pendant groups.
