✦ Synopsis
External magnetic field effects on photochemical reactions of triplet xanthone with tert-butyl-substituted phenols in an SDS micelle were studied by a transient optical absorption technique. These systems, which have been known to give CIDEP spectra due to quasi-stable radical pairs, also showed large magnetic field effects. These effects were rationalized by hypefine and relaxation mechanisms. The effect of the substituent on spin dynamics is discussed.
