✦ Synopsis
An extended version of the mild slope equation for a linear wave propagating over a finite porous layer is presented. The solution is obtained using Green's second identity, retaining second-order terms, and considering the effects of evanescent modes. For certain conditions, the new approach gives the same solution as that previously presented by other authors. Applying a perturbation technique the solution of the complex dispersion relationship is guaranteed through the use of a new criterion in the first order trail. The numerical results show the importance of the evanescent modes for the accurate description of wave transformation in intermediate and deep water.
