A model is developed for cscitons in a linear chnin of dimers of radical ions in the rcgon intermediate between the nearly free-electron limit 2nd the localized-electron limit. When only on site electron-hole intcraclions are taken into occounr, an extended cxciron state results, which in the limit of zero bandwidth is lhe normal Frenkel exiron solution.

For rhc case of RbTCNQ, it is shown that from a compnrison of the experimentally found dipolnr splilting parameters and tllc cfculatcd ones. it may be concluded that the on site electron-hole intcrxztion nnd the onc-Aec:ron bandwidth are of the same order of mnpnitode for this snlt.
