## Background: Nitric oxide (no), the ubiquitous free radical, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various inflammatory diseases, including sunburn and ultraviolet (uv) radiation-induced pigmentation, and it also seems to play an important part in host defence against bacterial infection. #
