✦ Synopsis
The telegraph equations of a nonuniform transmission line ( ) NUTL can be sol¨ed by means of the hypergeometric confluent functions apart from the tapering factor. The solution that we find is the most general possible, and can be particularized to the exponential case to show how an exponentially tapered nonuniform transmission line ( ) ETNUTL can be treated as a high-pass filter. It is shown that the exponential profile impro¨es the performance of the filter, and the normalized transmission coefficient is gi¨en for different ¨alues of the tapering factor. Moreo¨er, we find a lumped equi¨alent circuit for the filter whose elements are dependent on the tapering factor. The high-pass characteristics of an ETNUTL are ¨erified with techniques in the frequency domain.
