Abstract
Accelerations of the specific growth rate during the exponential growth phase of Pseudomonas methanolica have been observed. There are also fluctuations of the consumption of methanol, the respiratory activity, the ATP content, and the activities of some catabolic enzymes. The content of polyβΞ²βhydroxybutyric acid drastically increases up to 60% of the dry weight and then begins to be consumed. This is accompanied by the increase of some other cell constituents (RNA, protein).

In certain conditions, filamentous fungi are observed to grow exponentially during batch submerged growth. It is shown for three cases, with simple mechanistic models, that an exponential growth assumption is reasonable. The basis of these models is the identification of a growth unit, and a mechani
