✦ Synopsis
The results of an experiment with an explosive three-stage launcher to accelerate plates to hypervelocities are presented. We have tested design, where the intensity of shock waves in accelerated plates is restricted because of a dampening layer application, and that enables a titanium plate having a thickness 0.5 mm to be accelerated up to 10.3 -10.9 km/s without melting and destruction of this plate. Plate state and plate velocity was recorded using flash radiography.
