✦ Synopsis
There is a stability that has not been profoundly affected by the waves of migration or population growth that have occurred over the centuries. The only real change has been the trend towards metropolitanisation of the population, and in terms of the future, the concentration of people in megalopolises is expected to continue.
It is the intention of this reviewer to ®nd an appropriate location to display this map in his department so that students can see and understand the global distribution of the species to which they belong. I suspect that other geographers with interests in population or cartography in other institutions would be tempted to do the same.
