โœฆ Synopsis

This report shows that the world's leading banks are all active in building artificial intelligence applications. Some smaller banks are already involved; nearly all of them are watching the technology with interest. These users expect expert systems to be as influential as database technology. Some of the reasons for this include:

โ€ข Banking and securities trading are people based. The quality of information and knowledge is all important. Banks and securities houses need to exploit the skills of their best staff. โ€ข These industries are already computer intensive, and they can take advantage of existing data and computer integration. โ€ข Increasingly complex international banking and trading tasks need powerful computer support, which expert systems can help to facilitate.

โ€ข Banking and trading are becoming more competitive, and any improvement is efficiency or service is at a premium.
