β¦ Synopsis
Extrapolation of the palaeoclimate chronology of the past million years or so seems to leave little doubt that another glacial stage can be expected in the near geologic future. O n a shorter time scale it appears that the increasing greenhouse effect from the use of fossil fuel will raise atmospheric temperature by 2 to 3 "K within a hundred years. The possibility of man's reversing or at least weakening these portentous climate changes is investigated here with the use of a thermodynamic climate model. Preliminary results indicate that the climate effects referred to may be reversible if caught early and certainly suggest that further and more sophisticated attention be given the subject.

The long-range predictive control strategy is extended to include a terminal matching condition so that the final control law minimizes the squares of prediction errors over a small future prediction horizon and at steady state. The weighting on the terminal condition is a better alternative than a
The utility of the J-HSMQC experiment to detect long-range CH correlations was investigated. Two new long-range J-compensated pulse sequences, LR-J-HSMQC(80,27) and LR-J-HSMQC(27,80), were developed using the (3beta(x))beta(y) composite 90 degrees pulse sequence. These two experiments were shown to
