✦ Synopsis
In this paper, the method of finite coupled elementary lines (FCEL) is presented. It is intended to analyze a microstrip patch antenna of arbitrary shape. For validation purposes, a particular shape that combines a disk and a triangle is considered. This structure is experimentally characterized for several feed positions. The resonant frequency predicted by the FCEL method is close up to 0.5% to measurements. The results concerning the input impedance are also presented. For particular feed positions, the predicted input impedance is not in good agreement with the measured data. These results show the limitations of the FCEL method. An attempt to explain this limitation is given.
