โฆ Synopsis
It Iwbeen found that fhxorescence quenchingof 9,lOdibromo-, 9,lOdichloro-and 9,1Odicyano-anthracenc by aromatic hydrocarbons is due not to singlet-triplet energy transfer but to donor-acceptor interactions leading to the formation of short-lived cscipbses. The 9,lOdics~noanthmcene cscipleses fhxorcjcc and their radiarionless deacrivation occurs via population of the dic~anoanthracene triplet state. The decay of escipkses of halo-anrhracenes with arenes due to rhe heavyatom effect occurs exclusively via intersystem crossing to the halo-anthncene triple1 state.
