Abstract

There has been a recent increase in public concern regarding human safety due to the exposure of humans to radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy radiated by mobile phone handsets. This paper presents an experimental study of the effectiveness of various commercially available specific absorption rate (SAR) reduction products and shielding materials that can be externally attached to the handsets. The results have indicated that the effectiveness of both the SAR reduction products and the shielding materials in reducing SARs are generally below 10%. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
