✦ Synopsis
The appearance of small discontinuities was found to lead to strong alternation of sound radiation by structures (acoustic power increase, alternation of directivity pattern). This paper also includes a comparison between calculations of acoustic power frequency response of a limited cylindrical shell with and without single local mass. One can see that small (1% of shell mass) additional local mass leads to an increase of acoustic power of IO-20 dB. This paper is concerned with an experimental investigation of discontinuity influence on acoustic radiation from a cylindrical shell. To explain our choice of structure for experimental investigation we briefly state the main results of previous studies and the basic assumptions made.
