✦ Synopsis

The paper investigates experimentally the damping of multi-mode oscillations achieved by a three-dimensional fuzzy logic power system stabilizer on a laboratory system at the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industries, Japan. The utilized control scheme is based on the polar information of generator state and the scheme is simple enough so as not to require intensive computation for the controller. Only real power output signal from the study unit is utilized to generate supplementary stabilizing signals. Through signal conditioning all the required information, i.e. two-dimensional acceleration/speed state or three-dimensional acceleration/speed/phase state, is derived from the measured real power output. The effectiveness of the control scheme has been demonstrated through experiments on the four machine laboratory system with multi-mode oscillations. Comparison studies have also been performed to show the advantages of the three-dimensional fuzzy logic power system stabilizer over conventional power system stabilizer.
