✦ Synopsis

We present experimental results demonstrating the performance of an erbium-doped silica fiber as a remote temperature sensor. The sensor is based on the fluorescence intensity-ratio change of two spectral bands as a function of temperature in the wavelength interval from 515 to 570 nm. We apply a radiometric analysis to the fluorescence spectrum that we have measured to determine the optimal spectral bands to use in the power ratio of the sensor. The spectral bands used in the power ratio, with best performance, are 525-535 nm/555-565 nm, with a signal-noise ratio of 57 and 56 dB, respectively. The sensor sensitivity is about 10 Γ‚ 10 Γ€3 =1
