CONCLUSION

A PMMA᎐GI᎐POF 2.5 Gbitrs transmission system with a record distance of 200 m has been reached, doubling the distance previously reported. The performances are mostly attributed to the spectral purity of the laser source, the use of a silicon APD receiver, and improved light-coupling arrangements that minimize back reflections from the fiber input end face into the laser source. We believe that the record result reported here is an important milestone that may encourage the development of polymer fiber systems using visible light.
