β¦ Synopsis
Microcomputer technology has evolved very rapidly and the necessity for keeping electronic systems operating reliably through cooling techniques has become a sizable problem in the field of heat transfer. Conventional methods of cooling, namely, those employing brushless DC cooling fans, have reached the limits of effectiveness and practicality. The present research experimentally investigated a new method for cooling microcomputers using a fully oscillatory flow device. Electronic component surface temperatures of the IBM PC/XT microcomputer were examined with different combinations of oscillatory flow cooling schemes, with cooling frequencies varied from 1-9 Hz. In some cases, component operating temperatures were improved as much as 40% using the oscillatory flow device.
