Abstract
We investigated numerically and experimentally the left‐handed (LH) properties of the metamaterial based on square split‐ring resonator (SRR) pairs. The square SRR pairs metamaterial simultaneously show an electric and magnetic response to incident electromagnetic wave, and exhibit broad LH bandwidth by the standard retrieval methods. The thickness of dielectric substrate spacer was varied to examine the LH transmission properties of the SRR pairs structure by experiments. It was found that the LH transmission passband slightly shift to low frequency with increasing of thickness t~s~. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
