✦ Synopsis


The centrifugal fractionation of cytoplasmic components and the biochemical analysis of such fractions has assumed increasing importance as a research method. The reliability of the results obtained from these investigations is limited, for the most part, by the medium in which the initial cellular disruption is accomplished. Either agglutination o r disintegration of the cellular constituents tends to contaminate the various fractions, thus confusing the results and leading to erroneous conclusions.

Kopac ('46, '47, '48) reported the inhibitory effects of both nucleic acids and protamine on the surface denaturation of homogenous protein systems. Others (Greenstein '47, Duggan and Luck '48, Teresi and Luck '48) reported the inhibition of heat and urea denaturation of protein systems by nucleates, sodium caprylate, phenyl butyrate, and phenyl cinnama t e.
